The 90th Academy Awards (Oscar Awards) ceremony was organized on 5th March at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, USA. At the ceremony, the film ‘The Shape of Water’ won the highest number of 4 Awards including Best Film. This movie was nominated in category 13. In the memory section of the 90th Academy Awards ceremony, tribute was given to Indian artist Shashi Kapoor and Sridevi.

Conrad Sangma was sworn in as Chief Minister of Meghalaya

Conrad Sangma of the National People’s Party took oath on March 6 as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Sangma was administered an oath of office and secrecy to 11 legislators in the cabinet. Governor Ganga Prasad administered the Chief Minister and his ministers the oath.

Former Minister of Meghalaya, Konrad Sangma, son of former PA Sangma PA Sangma He is the President of the National People’s Party and is currently the Member of Parliament from Tura Lok Sabha constituency.

It is notable that Congress has emerged as the largest party by winning 21 seats in 60 assembly constituencies of Meghalaya (contested for 59 seats). There were 19 National United Nations People’s Party (NPP), United Democratic Party (UDP) 6, People’s Democratic Front four, independents three, Bharatiya Janata Party and Hills State People’s Democratic Party two-two, Nationalist Congress Party and KHNAF one – Wins one seat.

In fact, no party in Meghalaya has got a majority. United Democratic Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, and independents have decided to support the National People’s Party of Conrad Sangma (NPP).

Official level talks between the two Korean countries

On 5 March between North and South Korea, official level talks were held in Pyongyang (North Korea). This was the first official level talk between the two countries after Kim-Jong-in power took over in 2011. After several years of persistent tension, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un made a peace conference at the dinner for the first time from the South Korean delegation.

China’s defense budget increases 8.1 percent

China has announced an increase of 8.1 percent in the defense spending of 2018 to $ 175 billion (1110 billion yuan). This is four times India’s recent defense budget. India’s defense budget is 46 billion dollars. Last year, China had increased it by seven percent.

It is notable that last year, China increased defense expenditure by 7 percent to $ 150.5 billion. China is the second largest country to spend on defense after the US. The US defense budget is 602.8 billion dollars. For the third time since 2013, the unit number has been increased in the defense budget. In 2016, defense expenditure was increased by 7.6 percent.

RBI fined on Axis Bank and IOB

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore on Axis Bank on March 5 and Rs 2 crore on Indian Overseas Bank. Axis Bank has been fined for violating the classified rules of the NPAs. For not complying with KYC and other rules, the RBI imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore on Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). The Reserve Bank said that action on both banks has been related to a reduction in regulatory compliance.

Viswanathan Anand won the winning rhythm Rapid Chess title

Viswanathan Anand has won the title of World Rapid Champion Chess. In the last round of the competition played in Moscow, Anand played the rhythmic Rapid Chess titles after playing a simple draw from Boris Gelfand of Israel. Anand had won the World Rapid title in Riyadh two months ago.

Emergency applies to Sri Lanka for ten days

The Government of Sri Lanka has decided to impose an emergency for ten days in the country for the purpose of controlling law and order. In the past, this decision has been taken because of the violence against the minority community in Kandy district.
