Indian Railways (IR) is Asia 's largest railway network and the second largest state-owned network in the world. It forms a major mode of transport in India for more than 160 years. It is the world's largest employer, with more than 1.3 million employees. It not only plays a vital role in fulfilling the basic structural requirements of the country but also encourages scattered areas to be brought together and the nation also promotes national integrity. Indian Railways has been the pioneer in delivering relief material to the disaster-prone areas during the national emergency. Railway Department is considered the highest among the organizations that employ in India, which offers different categories of jobs. Various job opportunities are available in these jobs ranging from 10th pass to engineers and medical degree holders. If you are a graduate, then you can apply for posts like Assistant Station Master, Clerk, if you are 10th /12th pass then you can apply for posts such as ticket collector, traffic attendant, stenographer, Guard. Apart from this, there are the posts of Helper, Trackman, Khalasi, Troliman, etc. for which the less educated candidates can also apply. If you are preparing for the job in the railway, then you should be aware that what categories are different for different jobs in the Railways and what has been the educational qualification and eligibility criteria for them. As you know, all the terms available in the railway are divided into different categories like A, B, C, D. All the posts under the Railways have been divided into these categories and for them, different eligibility criteria have been set. Group A Posts: Category-A posts under the Railways are counted in the official category. Most of the recruitments for this category are through the Civil Services. In addition to this category there are other posts which are done through the Engineering Service Exam / Combined Medical Exam. As far as eligibility criteria are concerned, for the posts of Group A, the candidate must have Engineering, MSc or MBBS from the accredited institution. Group B Posts: The post of Group-B under the Railways is also of the official category. For the posts of group A and B in Railways, who are of the official grade, for some, the examination is done by Alliance through the UPSC; most of the recruitment for the same group are also done through promotion. However, educational qualification and eligibility criteria are the same even for this, even if it is not filled out through promotion. Group C Posts : Railway recruits non-gazetted posts under group C such as HQ station master, guards, ticket collector, clerk, traffic attendant, Stenographer etc. These positions can also be called subordinate post, which falls above the grade of the officer but above Grade-D. Group D Posts: Under this category, there are usually posts like Trackman, Gangmen, Helper, Khalasi, and Trolleyman.
